{"id":10667,"date":"2012-10-10T02:35:40","date_gmt":"2012-10-10T01:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=10667"},"modified":"2022-11-23T16:45:00","modified_gmt":"2022-11-23T16:45:00","slug":"why-arent-we-all-driving-electric-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=10667","title":{"rendered":"Why Aren\u2019t We All Driving Electric Cars?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Some people <del>ask the stupidest questions!<\/del> (old, dead link)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That article refers to electric cars in 1900 constituting 34% of all cars on the roads (in Boston, Chicago, and New York), and then asks why it is less than 1% in the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reasons are simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ridiculously low range<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lack of charging points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lengthy charging times<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>huge expense<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When an electric car can do 500 miles on a full charge, be \u201crefuelled\u201d in as many places as there are gas stations at the present time, cost the same as a normal car, and take a minimum 75% charge in less than 5 minutes, then they will become acceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, having a maximum range of about 80 miles, with charging points being rarer than hens teeth, and a 75% charge (i.e. maximum 60 miles range) taking half an hour (12 hours if you want to \u201cfill it up\u201d), and costing 2-3 times the price of a normal vehicle, electric cars will remain the preferred choice of the over-earning plonker with more money than sense who doesn\u2019t really need a car at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <script data-jetpack-boost=\"ignore\" async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-4532794719633406\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people ask the stupidest questions!
