This <a title=\"Driving test age rise considered for teenagers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-24485792\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC story reports that teenagers<\/a> could have to wait \u201ca year longer\u201d before being able to take their driving tests.<\/p>\n<p>Much of it is a rehash of what has been said before. However, it is worth taking a look at the <a title=\"Novice drivers: Evidence review and Evaluation Pre-driver training, Graduated Driver Licensing\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/249282\/novice-driver-research-findings.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TRL paper it\u2019s based on<\/a>, because that is quite new and it outlines all the proposals to be considered. I just wish they\u2019d talk in English instead of convoluted gov-speak. Attempting to sift out the important bits, we have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>graduated driving licence<\/li>\n<li>minimum learning period<\/li>\n<li>mandatory daytime and night time lessons<\/li>\n<li>mandatory training log book<\/li>\n<li>12-month probationary licence on passing the test at age 18+<\/li>\n<li>mandatory P plates during probationary period<\/li>\n<li>night time 10pm-5pm curfew unless accompanied by someone 30+ years old<\/li>\n<li>ban on carrying passengers under age 30<\/li>\n<li>lower alcohol limit<\/li>\n<li>ban on use of mobile phones (including hands-free)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope they get off their arses and do something before we all die of old age!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ll believe it when I see it \u2013 but since they have (so far) decided to stop non-English tests, anything is possible.
