{"id":14938,"date":"2014-02-11T22:52:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-11T22:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=14938"},"modified":"2014-02-11T22:52:00","modified_gmt":"2014-02-11T22:52:00","slug":"dsa-and-vosa-merger-end-user-device-contract-to-cost-12m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=14938","title":{"rendered":"DSA And VOSA Merger &#8220;End User Device Contract&#8221; To Cost \u00a312m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in December 2013 <a title=\"DSA\/VOSA Merger \u2013 Saving Money?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=14430\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I reported that the upcoming merger<\/a> between DSA and VOSA \u2013 which was supposed to save money due to streamlining \u2013 was planning to spend \u00a335m by contracting someone \u201cto help manage and organise the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency\u2019s (VOSA) and Driving Standards Agency\u2019s (DSA) legacy IT infrastructure after the two organisations merge in 2014\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Well, if I\u2019m reading this right, <a title=\"DSA and VOSA plan post-merger \u00a312m end user device contract\" href=\"http:\/\/www.computerworlduk.com\/news\/it-business\/3501455\/dsa-and-vosa-plan-post-merger-12m-end-user-device-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they are now looking for someone<\/a> to support their IT after the merger. This appears to be a completely separate issue, and is set to cost a further \u00a312m for at least two years.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that this is not the DSA\u2019s or VOSA\u2019s fault. It is the government.<\/p>\n<p>As I said previously, there is no way the DSA can perform at its current level by merging with VOSA (and ditto for VOSA). They are totally separate functions. This was made all the more apparent when I realised that VOSA uses Lotus Notes for its email system, whereas DSA uses Microsoft Exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The company I used to work for switched from Microsoft to Lotus at one stage, and it was utter chaos. Lotus Notes is a pile of crap on so many fronts that its benefits are completely eclipsed.
