It reports that a driving instructor in Ilkeston \u201cnarrowly missed out\u201d on being voted the country\u2019s top driving instructor. The article reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>His pupils voted en masse to put him forward for the Golden L awards, a national competition to find the UK\u2019s top driving tutor\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It also adds:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Andy\u2026 says he is thrilled to have beaten 42,000 other instructors to be named second best in the country \u2018so early on in his independent career.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019ve got news for you, Andy. You didn\u2019t \u201cbeat\u201d 42,000 other instructors. You beat all except one of the handful who were put forward by their pupils. I very much doubt that the pupils would have been aware of the award in the first place unless it was\u2026 ahem\u2026 brought to their attention. More than 99% of the other 42,000 instructors out there didn\u2019t get entered \u2013 indeed, they were probably like me and didn\u2019t even know about the competition, and wouldn\u2019t have cared if they did.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, good luck to you and well done. But be careful not to let it go to your head. When I worked in the rat race, I once got an award I found embarrassing (and didn\u2019t want) for showing \u201cexemplary customer obsession\u201d.
