As I posted previously, the G4010 Scanjet does not work under Windows 7<\/a>. Hewlett Packard\u00a0 will be producing W7 drivers, but they’re taking their time over it.<\/p>\n

I got fed up waiting and contacted HP via their live chat facility. The guy I spoke with(Kalyan) was very helpful and he gave me this workaround to try. I must stress that it did not work for me, and in the end we agreed that I’d be best waiting for the official drivers which are “due soon”. But maybe someone else will benefit.<\/p>\n

Here’s what to do.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Download this software and save it to the desktop: ftp:\/\/ftp.hp.com\/pub\/softlib\/software8\/COL17370\/sj-50004-1\/setup_full_G4000.exe<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Right-click the downloaded program and select Properties .<\/li>\n
  3. Go to the Compatibility tab.<\/li>\n
  4. Enable the option to ” Run in compatibility mode ” and select ” Vista ” from the dropdown list.<\/li>\n
  5. Click OK .<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    At this stage – if this is going to work easily – the program will install without any problems.<\/p>\n

    When I did it I got a fatal error. It was then suggested I uninstall the partially installed program, disable the firewall and antivirus , and try the above steps again. Note that I am behind a hardware firewall on my router – I don’t like being connected to the Internet without a firewall, so please be careful if you disable it on yours.<\/p>\n

    I still got a fatal error, although it did get much further this time. So I was then asked to do the following.<\/p>\n

    1. Click the Start globe, choose All Programs , then Accessories .<\/li>\n
    2. Right-click Command Prompt and choose ” Run as Administrator “.<\/li>\n
    3. Locate the folder where VBSCRIPT.DLL is located using Windows Explorer (it should be C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 , but if it isn’t note down the actual path).<\/li>\n
    4. At the prompt in the Command Prompt window, type: CD C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32 and press Enter .<\/li>\n
    5. Click Continue if a window appears.<\/li>\n
    6. Type REGSVR32 VBSCRIPT.DLL and press Enter .<\/li>\n
    7. It should tell you it was successful. Type “exit ” and press Enter .<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Now try installing the software again as described above (no need to uninstall the previous try according to Kalyan).<\/p>\n

      If this works for you, good luck. As I say, it didn’t for me – I still got a fatal error (early on this time). And don’t forget to re-enable your firewall and antivirus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
