{"id":5683,"date":"2011-04-13T10:19:27","date_gmt":"2011-04-13T10:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=5683"},"modified":"2011-04-13T10:19:27","modified_gmt":"2011-04-13T10:19:27","slug":"driving-the-wrong-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=5683","title":{"rendered":"Driving the Wrong Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #800000\">Irish Times reports that driving the wrong way (citing a specific motorway in County Limerick) is now &#8220;a daily occurrence&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The report also says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">The most dangerous drivers on motorways, garda\u00ed say, are \u201cmiddle-aged and older drivers\u201d. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These would be the ones who &#8220;learned&#8221; to drive under Ireland&#8217;s previous almost non-existent (according to my Irish pupils) teaching system. I hope <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=5544\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">those opposed to Ireland&#8217;s attempts<\/a> to bring their system up to scratch are listening&#8230; but I doubt it.<\/p>\n<p>Having some troglodyte coming towards you in the outside lane&#160;in the opposite direction&#160;isn&#8217;t funny. I <em>know<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t just my take. Noels Brett of the RSA said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">&#8230;there were 2\u00bd million driving licence-holders, and the vast majority had had no formal driving instruction, particularly older drivers, who he said may be used to driving in a way that was not suitable for motorways. \u201c<strong>If someone misses their exit they may feel it\u2019s okay to do a U-turn, or try and reverse back.<\/strong> One simply cannot do that in the high-speed environment of a motorway,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s frightening, isn&#8217;t it?
