I reported a few months ago<\/a> that certain \u201cexperts\u201d were predicting the \u201cworst winter on record\u201d this year. Some people were even organising their lives around it.<\/p>\n

\"WinterWell, the media is doing its best to talk things up during this chilly few days (in spite of the Met Office saying it\u2019s just a brief cold snap and it will get warmer next week).<\/p>\n

I just saw BBC News adding fuel to the fires. They had a reporter standing in snow, wringing her hands and saying \u201cit\u2019s well below freezing already\u201d. Well, yeah, it would be \u2013 standing up in the Brecon Beacons in the dark, less than a week away from midwinter!<\/p>\n

So far, we\u2019ve had unseasonal mild weather, and now we\u2019ve got a bit of typical British winter weather \u2013 snow on the hills, wet or sleety everywhere else, frost at night, and bitterly cold if it\u2019s windy and the temperature is below about 6\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

But stand outside in the dark in the Welsh mountains anywhere close to the Winter Solstice and yes, it will<\/strong> be bloody cold.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
