In 2023 it costs \u00a315-\u00a320 for a simple car wash and vac.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I took my car to one of those hand car washes today, and it struck me how much money they must be making when you add it all up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I mean, at around \u00a34 for a simple wash and dry, and let\u2019s say 5 cars an hour (often, there are that many queuing), in a typical working day they must be turning over somewhere between \u00a3150-\u00a3200 as an absolute minimum. Then add on the premium washes and the valet options (the cheapest is around \u00a310, but one I\u2019ve seen is \u00a350), turnover must be \u00a3300-\u00a3400 easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They mostly operate out of defunct pubs and wasteland, so rent must be small. Admittedly, there are often 6 or 7 of them, but even so that would be anything up to \u00a3100 each \u2013 and I suppose you can only guess at how much tax they pay. It would put them on close to \u00a315 an hour!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you compare that to an ADI\u2019s income, where after business costs (but before tax) the hourly rate can be around \u00a312 an hour, you wonder if you\u2019re in the right business sometimes!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an old post.
