{"id":8450,"date":"2012-03-05T17:02:17","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T17:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=8450"},"modified":"2012-03-05T17:02:17","modified_gmt":"2012-03-05T17:02:17","slug":"annual-statement-of-the-bleeding-obvious-contender-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diaryofanadi.co.uk\/?p=8450","title":{"rendered":"Annual Statement Of The Bleeding Obvious \u2013 Contender #1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I read <font color=\"#800000\">this report<\/font>, which says that using a smartphone while driving can be more <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 180px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 180\/216;margin: 5px 10px 5px 0px; display: inline; float: left\" title=\"The Bleeding Obvious Awards 2012\" alt=\"The Bleeding Obvious Awards 2012\" align=\"left\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.diaryofanadi.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/obvious.gif\" width=\"180\" height=\"216\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/>dangerous than drinking alcohol or using cannabis, I slapped my head and thought what a fool I\u2019d been for not realising this for myself after all these years.<\/p>\n<p>Not.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, it needed \u201cresearch\u201d by some comedians calling themselves the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) in order for this hitherto \u201cunknown\u201d fact to come to light.<\/p>\n<p>I wish they\u2019d stop calling these things \u201cstudies\u201d and \u201cresearch\u201d. They are neither \u2013 not by a long way. It\u2019s just some old geezer with absolutely nothing better to do stating the bloody obvious after reading something in Time, Readers Digest, or Saga Magazine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THEY<\/strong> might not have known it, but I would imagine that most of the higher primates did. Jeez, even my cat knew.<\/p>\n<p>What makes it worse is that the Americans have been having hysterics over this very subject for the past 12 months, and have done most of the \u201cresearch\u201d themselves (it\u2019s not so bad when Americans do it, because it\u2019s only what you\u2019d expect), so the IAM can hardly claim to have \u201cdiscovered\u201d anything.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, arseing about with your radio, mobile phone, music collection, laptop, TV, toaster, microwave oven, building Lego models, solving the Rubik\u2019s Cube, or any other activity which takes your attention off the road is dangerous and stupid. It always has been, and always will be.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like saying that you mustn\u2019t put your hand in a running Flymo \u2013 but only <strong>after<\/strong> \u201cresearch\u201d &#8211; and then pretending no one knew up until then that it was stupid and dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>This is currently top contender for the <strong>2012 Statement Of The Bleeding Obvious<\/strong> awards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I read this report, which says that using a smartphone while driving can be more dangerous than drinking alcohol or using cannabis, I slapped my head and thought what a fool I\u2019d been for not realising this for myself after all these years.
