These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (see <\/font><a title=\"Official Signs and Road Markings PDF file from Highway Code\" href=\"http:\/\/www.direct.gov.uk\/prod_consum_dg\/groups\/dg_digitalassets\/@dg\/@en\/documents\/digitalasset\/dg_070563.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><font color=\"#800000\">&#8216;Road markings&#8217; (PDF, 715KB)<\/font><\/a><font color=\"#000080\">).<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000080\">You<\/font> <strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">MUST NOT<\/font><\/strong><font color=\"#000080\"> enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000080\">At signalled roundabouts you<\/font> <strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">MUST NOT<\/font><\/strong> <font color=\"#000080\">enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>I think the DSA has started doing this as a way of trying to keep drivers\u2019 knowledge up to date &#8211; which is a good thing, since most appear to have great difficulty doing it themselves, and have have had for many years (poor knowledge of the HC has <strong>always<\/strong> been a problem).<\/p>\n<p>During rush hour, many people have difficulty in dealing with box junctions. Lorry drivers are one of the worst culprits. However, I honestly think most people simply don\u2019t know they\u2019re there &#8211; or only realise once they\u2019re stopped in them (judging from the sheepish looks you get when they\u2019re blocking you).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The DSA has sent out an email alert with a reminder about how to use box junctions.
