When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080\">give priority to traffic already on the motorway  <\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080\">check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane  <\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080\">not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder  <\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080\">stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway  <\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080\">remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Highway Code - Motorways\" href=\"http:\/\/www.direct.gov.uk\/en\/TravelAndTransport\/Highwaycode\/DG_069862\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000\">Read all the rules about motorways (253-273)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>I would imagine this is aimed at holiday traffic, though the jackasses who cause whole swathes of the M25, M6, M4, M1, and M80 to be closed daily at other times also ought to take note.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The latest reminder from the DSA, this time concerning motorways: Rule 259 Joining the motorway.
